s MAR 0 21987 3.0 INSTRUCTION 3.1 INSPECTION CRITERIA 3.1.1 Preplacement Inspection The following attributes will be verified prior to all grout placement:
NOTE:
For dry pack grouting method, pre-placement monitoring of items included in Paragraph 3.1.2.2.c.3 is required in addition to the following attributes.
a.
Surfaces to receive grout are free of oil, grease, loose concrete and faltance.
b.
Forms securely anchored and of sufficient height.
c.
Wedges and shims are cut.off flush with outside edge of plates or as otherwise specified by design document (s).
d.
Core bore correct in size and location.
e.
Exposed rebar has 1" clearance (outside' layer).
f.
The QC Inspector shall verify if rebar is cut, the rebar cutting performed is in accordance with the Design Change Authorization.
The QC Inspector shall sign-off accordingly on the Construction Operational Traveler.
g.
The QC Inspector shall verify that areas which have received surface preparation in the form of chipping or drilling to determine that embedded reinforcing bars have not received damage.
Reinforcing bars which have received damage (i.e., nicks', gouges) may be acceptable provided that the resulting depression in the body of the bar does not exceed the follovir.g:
1.
depth of damage - Bars #6 - #9 maximum depth of damaged area 1/8".
Bars #10 - #18 maximum depth of damaged area 3/16".

Bars meeting the above mentioned damage criteria shall have sharp edges or proj ections removed and rounded by grounded or filing along the surface of the body of the bar.

The QC Inspector shall verify that embedded reinforcing bar is free of are strikes.
Arc strikes shall be reported in accordance with Reference 1-F.

Concrete surfaces to be grouted shall be kept wet and excess water shall be removed prior to placement.
Where fluid commercial grout is to be used, either the surface shall be pre-wetted in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations or a bonding agent shall be applied.

k' hen grouting, per this procedure, involves the addicion of miscellaneous steel items (anchor bolts, reinforcing steel dowels, etc.) to existing structures, verification of the added embedded items shall be accompished in accordance with Reference 1-G.
3.1.2 Placement Inspection Placement inspection of dry pack grouting method will be performed a minimum of once per week.
Fluid grout placement inspection will be performed every time fluid grout is placed.

3.1.2.1 Bonding Agent v
L' hen a water / cement slurr'y is used as an alternative to "welderete" for dry pack or grout, verify the following.
After mixing the water / cement slurry, the mixture shall be the consistency of cream.
The area to be grouted and the area 6 inches wide surrounding the item to be dry packed or grouted shall be prewetted.
The water / cement slurry shall be brushed into the surface.
khen the slurry begins to lose its water sheen, dry pack or grout may be applied to the area.
3.1.2.2 Mixing The proportion of materials, temperature and mixing requirements are in accordance with the following:
a.
Master Flow 713 and Embeco 636 Grout The following items shall be' monitored by the QC Inspector:
1.
Surface temperature shall be 45'F - 100*F.
2.
The temperature of the grout after mixing shall be 45'F - 70*F.
3.
Mixing water shall not exceed 80*F.
