By letter dated April 17,1998, as supplemented by letter dated August 3,1998, the

Commonwealth Edison Company (Comed) submitted the second 10-year interval inservice Inspection (ISI) program plan and associated relief requests for Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2. The staff has reviewed and evaluated the information provided by Comed related to relief request 12R-30. This relief request provides attemative requirements for insulation removal at bolted connections in systems borated for the purpose of controlling reactivity. The staff finds that the proposed altemative provides an acceptable level of quality and safety. Relief Request 12R-30 is authorized pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(a)(3)(i) for the second 10-year interval.
