By letter dated October 28,1981 Pacific Gas and Electric Company (the licensee) requested an exemption under 10 CFR Part 20.501 from the ' calendar quarter

definition provided in 10 CFR Part 20.3(a)(4) as it applies to the licensee's j
r6diation exposure assessment program. The exemption is for the purpose of j
permitting the Itcensee to shorten the final 1981 calendar quarter, so that the quarter coemences the first of the 1982 calendar year on January 1,1982 (rather than January 15, 1982 as would otherwise be the case). We have found the proposed j
exemption acceptable.
This exemption is authorized by law and will not result in undue hazard to l
life and property.

We have concluded, based on the considerations discussed above, that because the I
exemption does not involve a significant increase in the probability or consequences 1
of accidents previously considered and does not involve a significant decrease i
in a safet,y margin, the exemption does not involve a significant hazards consideration.
