MEETING WITH UNION ELECTRIC COMPANY REGARDING THE JUNE 1997 l- OPERATIONAL SAFEGUARDS RESPONSE EVALUATION AT THE CALLAWAY PLANT AND UNION ELECTRIC COMPANY'S IMPROVED STRATEGY FOR STATION SECURITY 4

'On February 20, 1997, a meeting was held with Union Electric Company (UE) to

, discuss the June 1997 Operational Safeguards Response Evaluation (OSRE) at the

! Callaway Plant. UE also discussed their improved strategy for_ station security. Attachment 1 is the list of attendees.

During the meeting, the staff _ informed UE that the improved strategy to re-analyze the current target sets utilizing the methods and techniques developed for the Individual Plant Evaluation was a good approach to developing the Callaway security response plan. However, since the new security response plan will not be implemented prior to the June 1997 OSRE, the OSRE will evaluate the security response plan currently in existence.

.In addition, UE discussed potential modifications to the Callaway~ Plant to support .the new plan. Specifically, UE discussed a potential modification to replace existing doors with new hardened doors. The staff informed UE that revisions to the security plan based on benefits gained from replacing existing doors with new hardened doors would be reviewed by the staff when the revised security plan is submitted for approval and when evaluated by the OSRE team.
