s o3 ENCLOSURE 1 MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTION (MI) i ENHANCEMENT PROJECT SCHEDULE i
This enclosure describes the improvements and schedules for SQN's enhancement project for mis.
Specifically, this program implements the commitments contained in Volume 2, section 4.2.2, of the Sequoyah Nuclear Performance Plan (SNPP), for improvements of mis. The first phase of the enhancement project 1
is currently underway and will be completed by May 30, 1988, as previously committed. This initial effort involves 58 mechanical, 23 electrical, and 59 instrument mis. Plant operating requirements have dictated some changes to this specific list. These changes are shown in attachment 1. which contains 228 mechanical, 526 electrical, and 237 instrument mis is a listing of the remaining mis to be enhanced or developed.
This listing is only an estimate based on present requirements and plant needs, and should be expected to change.
The Preventive Maintenance Program is one area where additional mis will be required that are not presently identified.
The schedule for completing the MI/ maintenance-related surveillance instruction (SI) effort is shown in attachment 3.
The number of instructions to be completed by the indicated milestone dates are for both mis and sis.
It is not possible at this time to give a definite commitment on each individual program. Plant needs will dictate the instructions to be completed first.
This project is also responsible for the maintenance-related sis. Presently, there are certain Instrument Maintenance Instructions (IMIs) that are used as supporting instructions to certain technical specification sis. These will be eliminated and covered under new sis.
Thekeyelementsoftheenhancementprojectareasfo$ lows:
1 Upgrading and standardization of instructions 1
j l
Simpitfication of instructions by reducing tiering and removing redundant loops / channels, etc., to make the instructions easier to perform Inclusion of procedural detail to ensure consistent performance and technical adequacy i
Conversion of IMIs to mis in order to standardize all mis e
Conversion of the appropriate IMIs to sis to ensure consistency with the SI program 4
i Elimination of equipment from sis that is not regulred to satisfy technical specifications Development of mis to address equipment eliminated from the sis Development of mis to address specific tasks that have generic applications 1
'9 ENCLOSURE 1 2
Development of mis necessary to support the Preventive Maintenance Program i
'r Cancellation of mis that are no longer needed In addition to the key elements identified above, verification / validation of instructions will be accomplished in accordance with SQN Standard Practice SQM1, "Sequoyah Nuclear Plant Maintenance Program."
