During the first six months of 1972, the plant had en everall availability factor of 68.5%. During this report period, the unit was shutdown from May 1 to June 20 for- a scheduled partial l

turbine-generator inspection and reactor refueling and inspection.

In addition, the plant was shutdown for short durations several times during the report period, including four (4) unplanned l These resulted from a feedvatar pump automatic reactor scrams.

l trip, operator training, low sondenser vacuum (worn punap seals) .

l trip of presss> nritches while performing surveillance tests.

This document should be retained for possible review in the conversion from a POL to an FOL.

Jersey Central Power & Light Ccepany letter dated September 18, 1972 reports that the activity level in the outside radvaste tank eaceeded the 10 curies limit. Waste was racycled and the levels -

reduced to acceptable values.

A review comittee has been established to compile a report su:amarising the problems that have been encounterad with radwaste operations. Also, tl.e investigation of radwe.ste problocs by an outside consultant is underway with the aim toward making prompt recoesoendations for innedtate corrections to procedures and equipment to reduce the problams in the

short-term and permanent modifications to eliminate the problems in the future.

No ACRf action is roccenended.

l' the scram pilot valve header. Excessive leak > ge from some scran, pilot valves and greater than anticipated flow restriction through another valve teamed up with a loose wtre to cause a spurious scram.

An investigation and corrective action have been initiated.
