Dear Mr. Chairman:

The Subcor.mittee on Energy and the Environment invites the Commission to participate on February 9, 1984 in an oversight hearing on the NRC's budget request for fiscal years 1984 and 1985.

As you know, on May 11, 1983 the House Interior Cemrittee favorably reported a bill (H.R. 2510; Report 98-103, Part 1) authorizing appropriations for the NRC during FY 1984 and FY 1985.

That legislation still is pending in the House, and a corr nion hill is under active consideration in the Senate.

It is my hope that the Con;ress w.11 ccr.p l e t e acti n en this legislaton sometime this Spring.

Tne hearing on February 9th will provide an opportunity for the Subcommittee to review with the Commission the budget recommendations included in Report 98-103, Part 1.

The Subcommittee will be interested to thinking on the applicability of hear the Commisson's current those recommendations to the agency's funding needs during the remainder of fiscal year 1984 and during fiscal year 1985.
