The Federal Register of October 9,1985 contains notice of the Toledo Edison Company's proposal for a permanent low level radio-active wastadisposal site on land adjoining the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Plant near Port Clinton, Ohio.

Toledo Edison also requests that the site be released for unrestricted use when Davis Besse is decommi ssioned.

The proposal would permit the disposal of low level radioactive dredgings from "on site" settling basins onto land adjoining the plant, formerly the Navaare Marsh.

At this site, all renoved sludge would be buried at a minimum depth of two feet, covered with four inches of clean soil and seeded.

This proposed nuclear dump is located on an old swamp adjoining Lake Erie. During a storm on November 13, 1972, this entire area was flooded. A photo of this flooded area proposed for the radio-active disposal site is in the possession of the Consumers League of Ohio.

Lake Erie is the source of drinking water for millions of people.

Studies show that low level radioactivity in drinking water causes an increase in cancer.

Consumers League of Ohio members consider this land use an irresponsible j

proposal; therefore we ask that a public hearing be initiated and the proposal be turned down.
