w APPROVAL FOR Tile DISPOSAL OF'RADI N H ACTIVE WASTE AT THE DAVIS-BESSE PLANT SITE WHEREAS, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has approved the request of Toledo Edison Company and the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company to dispose of low-level radioactive wastes on the Davis-Besse plant site; and WHEREAS, the action of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission establishes a precedent for storage of nuclear wastes at other nuclear facility sites; and WHEREAS, radioactive waste is toxic and harmful to humans and the environment, causes cancer, birth defects, genetic damage and irreversible harm to the biosphere.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY Ti!E COUNCIL OF Tile CITY OF MENTOP, COUNTY OF LAKE, STATE OF OHIO:

SECTION 1.

That the Council of the City of Mentor hereby requests che Nuclear Regulatory Commission to rescind its approval for the disposal of radioactive wastes on the site of the Davis-Besse plant.

SECTION 2.

That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby directed to send certified copies of this Resolution to: The Nucicar Regulatory Commission, Senators John Glenn and Howard Hetzenbaum and Representative Dennis Eckart.

SECTION 3.

That this Resolution shall take eff cc and be in force from and immediately upon its adoption.
