SUBJECT:
CATAWBA NUCLEAR STATION:
ALLEGED CHEATING ON QC WELDING INSPECTION EXAMINATIONS (2-83-039) l Enclosed is a Report of Investigation pertaining to an investigation at Duke Power Company's Catawba Nuclear Station, Clover, SC concerning the above subject.
Interviews were conducted with those welding inspectors who attended the class where the cheating allegedly occurred.
Additionally, current and former welding inspectors who attended subsequent classes were interviewed.
All of those interviewed, totalling 20 individuals, stated unequivocally I
that they were not aware of any improprieties in any welding inspector training.
The instructors who conducted the training class were also interviewed and provided sworn testimony wherein they denied providing any assistance as alleged.
Based on the fact no one was able to co.rroborate any of the information set forth by the alleger, the allegation appears to be without merit.
Neither this memorandur or report may be released outside the NRC without the permission of the Director, 01.
