CATAWBA NUCLEAR STATION: INFORMATION PROVIDED BY INTERVIEWEE This refers to our conversation on April 17, 1984 at which time I advised you that a Duke Power employee at Catawba Nuclear Station was recently interviewed, and provided information about an area of potential concern to the Region. You requested this information be provided to you for appropriate review and staffing if necessary.

During the interview of Gary E. ROSS, Supervisory Technician / Welding Inspection, it was learned that problems similar to the ones expressed by the welding inspectors at Catawba could exist in other disciplines at Catawba. According to ROSS, these problems, consisting of lack of management support, suppression of NCis and harassment and intimidation, were concerns expressed to him by two civil inspectors at the site. ROSS identified these inspectors as Jim NORRIS and Wrenn VASSEY, however, he was not sure they would be willing to talk to the NRC, He did not express any specific concerns these individuals might have had, only that their concerns were very similar to those expressed by the welding inspectors.
