Gentlemen:
SUBJECT: REPORT NOS. 50-338/84-44 AND 50-339/84-44-
Thank you for your response of March 12, 1985, to our Notice of Violation issued
on February 11, 1985, concerning activities conducted at your North Anna facility.
We have evaluated your response and found that it meets the requirements of
In addition, we have reviewed your comments as to whether violation 339/84-44-02
was correct as stated in reference to the required surveillance interval of
-fiberglass spray pond piping. At the conclusion of the inspection period, it was
your North Anna plant management's position that the piping in question was not
prepared with an exterior weather resistant coating.
Subsequent to the comple-
tion of the exit meeting and the issuance of Inspection Report Nos. 338, 339/
84-44, your . staff was able to determine that the original system was prepared
with an exterior weather resistant coating, but all replacement piping and
materials were not.
The spray pond piping system was not inspected at the
required frequency (yearly) as a result of the installation of non-treated
replacement piping; hence, it was- not surveilled in compliance with operating
license. condition 2.C.5..
Therefore, the violation is still valid. Your
corrective actions for this matter are acceptable.. No additional response is
required.
We will examine the implementation of your corrective actions during
future inspections.
