S31 PARK AVENUE g,c KING OF PRUS$1A. PENNSYLVANIA 19406 December 28, 1984 Dr. Karim Rimawi, Director Bureau of Envirormental Radiation Protection New York State Department of Health Empire State Plaza Tower ~ Building Albany, New York 12237 Dear Dr i:

I appreciated the opportunity to attend the recent New York State Program Coordination meeting.

We believe the meeting and decision reached to reestablish an overall coordination group for the program are important positive steps in improving overall coordination and effectiveness of the program.

The efforts expended by you and the other Program Directors to bring about these changes are to be commended.

At the meeting, I promised to check on the status of our activities to reevaluate the sanitary sewer discharge limits and to provide you copies of several documents.

In response to our earlier correspondence with the Office of Research, the Health Effects Branch has developed a plan for reevaluation of the limits.

I have enclosed a copy for your review. We would appreciate any comments New York may have on the specifics of the proposal and any data that may be of assistance to the Health Effects Branch in conducting an evalua-tion.

Please let me have any comments by January 25, 1985. I have also enclosed a copy of the EPA report Walt Cool mentioned at the Agreement States meeting, a copy of our recent Temporary Instruction on reconcentration of radionuclides in sanitary sewage systems, and a copy of our Information Notice on reconcentration sent to all materials licensees.

If I may be of any further assistance, please call me on (215) 337-5246.

Sincerely, O

I Paul H. Lohaus State Liaison Officer 9
