Letter from G. F. Dick (NRC) to D. L. Farrar (Comed), " Spent Fuel Survey Commitments for Byron Station, Units 1 and 2 (TAC No. M88094)," dated June 27,1996.

During the March / April 1996 NRC survey of spent fuel practices and spent fuel pool cooling system design and current licensing basis, Commonwealth Edison (Comed) Byron Station committed to clarify, in its next UFSAR update, its description of refueling activities including identification of a full core ofiload practice as routine. In the reference letter, the NRC requested that Comed confirm the commitment regarding the UFSAR l update and indicate its projected completion date. Comed was requested to provide a l response within 30 days of receipt of the letter.

The UFS AR update for clarifying refueling activities at Byron Station has been approved.

In the update, UFSAR Subsections 9.1.2.3 and 9.1.3.1 specifically identify that routine refueling activities include a full core temporary ofiload. This update will be provided to the NRC in December 1996 as part of the Byron /Braidwood UFSAR Revision 6 submittal.
