Dear Sir:

Your letter, dated June 21, 1972, described a problem, that had occurred at Quad Cities I and Monticello with respect to the failure of bolts, in shear, that were used in the hangers for a suction header. This header is the primary source of water for the Emergency Core Cooling Systems.

Unlike Quad Cities I and Monticello, the Pilgrim Station has no suction header and, of course, no brackets supporting it. 'In the Pilgrim Station each of the ECCS systems; one (1) RCIC, one (1)

HPCI, two (2) Core Spray and four (4) RHR is fed directly from the torus through its own suction line.

CAP /cac Very truly yours, Y cwth 0 Q
