20555 NRC DOCKET 50-366 OPERATING LICENSE NPF-5 EDWIN I. HATCH NUCLEAR PLANT UNIT 2 ComITMENT FOR INTERIM TESTING OF PLANT PIPING FOR IGSCC Gentlemen:
On July ~ 7, 1983, Georgia Power Company (GPC) management met with U.
S.
MJclear Regulatory Commission staff management concerning operation of Plant Hatch Unit 2 with existing conditions of Intergranular Stress Corrosion Cracking (IGSCC) in recirculation system and residual heat removal (RHR) systeJn piping.
Pursuant to those conversations, GPC hereby makes the following commitments:
GPC will conduct additional volumetric testing of appropriate welds to determine to what extent, if any, IGSCC cracking has progressed in both the repaired and unrepaired RFR and recirculation piping.
A detailed proposed inspection plan will be submitted for NRC review by August 5, 1983.
This plan shall include provisions for identifying crack depth and crack propagation rate to support continued plant operation.
If you have questions regarding these commitments, please contact this office.
Very truly yours,
)
