SUBJECT:
REVIEW 0F THE RESUBMITTED SECTION 2(c) 0F THE' RENEWAL APPLICATION FOR SNM LICENSE NO. SNM-ll54 Earl Wright and I have reviewed the subject submittal and suggest that the following information should be obtained before a final decision is made.
, 1.
A more detailed drawing of the GPHS Fueled Clad Assembly showing:
(a) The thickness of the irridium alloy cladding.
(b) How the plutonium fuel pellet is secured within the cladding enclosure.
2.
How the small cladded assembly is mounted within the exposure cage to prevent loss in the event of damage to the perforated copper screen.
] 3.
Why the decision was made to vent only one of the capsules by drilling a hole through the vent cover.
In other words, what information do they hope to gain from the drilled vs the undrilled vent cover?

The planned duration of the tests.
Before proceeding further, I would suggest that you send a copy of this January 15, 1981 submittal to Tom Dorian, ELD, and find out what bearing the resubmitted application will have on the formal denial which was placed on a " hold" status following the December 11, 1980 meeting with the Navy and DOE.
