NOTE FOR:

Richard H. Vollmer, Director Division of Engineering We plan to meet with EFSEC in September to flesh out our plans for joint EIS preparation.

NESCO plans to submit the alternative site portion of the ER in October and the full ER in December.

In the meantime, we are exploring with each NRR branch that has input to the EIS the possibility of preparing that input now in anticipation that the information provided in the ER will not differ from that already known based on our reviews of WNP 1, 2, and 4, and that the design of the NSSS will remain essentially unchanged.

Depending upon the level of cooperation we get we may need your muscle.

If this approach works, and all branches (and OELD) cooperate, we should be able to get the DES out a month or two after the.ER is submitted with the FES 3 or 4 months later.

This should dovetail reasonably well with Mike Mallory's plans on completing the Site Suitability Report.

To answer your question directly, by the end of September, after our meeting with EFSEC and after our request for early EIS preparation from NRR branches, we should know the review schedule which will, of course be bound by the ER submittal date.

W Daniel R. Muller, Assistant Director for Environmental Technology Division of Engineering
