ACRS SUBCOMMITTEE MEETING ON LIMERICK, DOCKET NOS

/353 m

1 The staff met with the subcommittee on March 31, 1971 for over fl l

two hours prior to the meeting with the applicant. The major

/

l topics of discussion were centered on our listing of outstanding l

issues for the Limerick Plant as included in our Meeting Agenda l

of March 15, 1971 (identical to our summary in the Interim ACRS

[,.'

l report).

7 The major items of management interest include:

j s

1.

l Limerick until the full ACRS has considered it.

This was stated f

to be a position previously made known to DRL management; however, 4

j those of us at the meeting were not aware of this position.

l 2.

The ACRS would like a written report co= paring Limerick and Newbold

?

Island.

They stated their SPI rating showed significant differences -

0.83 versus 1.25 - and were curious how we were treating this site.

l 3.

The subcommittee would like to know our position as to requiring

?

Class I or Class II main steam lines (and our basis).

?

4.

n e subcommittee questioned our criteria for acceptable doses under i

accident situations.

One thought expressed was if we had atte=pted i

to calculate a man-rem concept and possibly a statisuical death rate on life shortening due to accidents.

5.

In accordance with Dr. Hanauer's instructions, we did not mention the design requirements to cope with the effects of turbine missiles either with the applicant or the ACRS.

Our agenda did, however, contain this topic and we informed the ACRS that we had no position on Limerick with regard to overspeed protection requirements or missile protection.

The members questioned why we were departing r202100088 811019 PDR FOIA 21TZER81-385 PDR 7
