Transient Voltage Regulation Ny p l Centlemen: In our previous letters (reference letters dated January 18, February 22, June 17, and July 20, 1980) we had addressed the installation of 6.3 MVAR capacitor banks as the final resolution for transient voltage regulation on the 4160 volt 4 Emergency Buses. Since that time, procurement and installation problems ,1 associated with the capacitor banks have precluded the use of these components in this application, i This letter is to advise you of the revised design concept which has been issued and calls for the installation of new station service transformers equipped i' with at,tomatic tap changing secondary capability. Provisions will be provided for tap changer failure protection and remote control capability for the operator. I j Load flow tests have been conducted to determine the optimum primary tap setting for several system grid conditions (high r low voltage during normal and emergency conditions) to insure that secondar; voltage will be maintained at 4160V 10 % to the emergency bus switchgear and motors. The voltage analysis and test data which validated the original analysis 1 remain valid for this change in design concept. We believe that the use of tap changing transformers on the 4160 volt emergency buses will result in the desired f improvements in the performance of the system. ) We are forwarding as Attachment "A", the 4KV voltage profile for the range of fixed and variable tap settings presently recommended for the new station service transformers. 4 These transformers will be installed during this refueling outage which is presently scheduled to begin January 1, 1982. f ole Very tr ly yours, .1 M / / .
