Re

Long Island Lighting Company; Shoreham Nuclear Plant

Dear Mrs. Hawkins:

Because I am a small stockholder in Long Island Lighting Company, I have followed the' extraordinary dif~fleultles that the company has 4

sufferedsin articles-in-the Wall Street Journal and reports to the stockholders by company management.

There appears to be no= qualified technical report finding that the'

'Shoreham plantTis not' safe to operate.- Furthermore, I have seen no; discussion in any publication that the plant would not be a ' dependable source of energy for the market area.

Thelunderlying problem-appears to be local polltical/ ant 1-nuclear I

activists influencing the rate-adjusting authorities-and the various

' licensing. authorities to modify operational requirements-that-were s

l~

developed'over-18 years ago without consideration of the documented-D facts.- The failure to allow licensing of the Shoreham Plant on what u

appears to be political principles, then renders the loss a polltical i

f cost.

tw The lack'of operation of the Shoreham plant appears to benefit-no one,~ and only costs the small Investors like myself, loss of capital and

income, and - the customers of the company increased rates.

Therefore,. I implore you to intervene in the. licensing-and rate-making process in order to bring about a prompt rate adjustment to

. allow the company to recoup its loss which has been suffered purely in response to political pressures.

Your assistance in obtaining operation licenses i mmediately is also requested.

t Thank you for-your graciour assistance.

.1 Respectfully _yours,

,/ l')
