PROPOSED LETTER TO CON ED REGARDING USE OF INDIAN POINT 1 FOR DECOMMISSIONING RESEARCH Indian Point I will be decommissioned by CON ED rather than make ECCS modifications that meet today's NRC criteria.
CON ED has proposed that the NRC provide funding as part of our research activities to assist CON ED in those decommissioning activities.
The proposed letter from the Chairman to Palladino states that, in the areas they identify, the NRC cannot appropriately provide funding.
We do, however, leave the door open for certain areas on a case-by-case basis sometime in the future.
I recommend you approve the proposed letter to CON ED without comment.
