t NIAGARA M0 HAWK POWER CORPORATION BACKFITTING COST EXPERIENCE FOR NINE MILE POINT 3TATION UNIT 1 - +.

Nine Mile Point Unit I has a net dependable capacity of 610 MWe. Commercial operation commenced in December 1969. The total cost of the unit was $164.2 million, equivalent to approximately $270 per KW.

Backfitting costs for Nine Mile Point Unit 1 through June 30, 1982 have been

$171.6 million. These costs can be allocated as $77.5 million for NRC imposed backfitting other than TMI lessons learned; $8.9 million for TMI lessons learned backfitting; and $85.2 for utility initiated backfitting. An additional backfitting cost of $125 million is anticipated for the Nine Mile Point Unit 1 to satisfy the existing and projected projects required by the NRC. A listing of the major previous backfitting costs is provided in Table 1, while the projected backfitting costs are shown in Table 2.
