Subject:

Nuclear Power Plant Backfitting and Regulatory Impact Costs

Dear Mr. Tourtellotte:

Thank you for your letter of February 8, 1983 on the subject item requesting backfitting cost analyses on our nuclear facilities.

Such an analysis was done for the Indian Point 3 facility in connection with the on-going Special Proceedings.

Mr.. George Wilverding of the Power Authority mentioned to you during the recent AIF Conference on Legal Issues in Boston that this analysis had been a Confidential Attorney Work Product, which has been released to the intervenors.

I am now able to release this to you and a copy is attached.

I hope 'this can be of use to you in your efforts to establish a reasonable NRC backfitting policy.

If the Power Authority can be of any help to you in the future in your efforts, please feel free to write me.

Very truly yours, b -

J.
