International Uranium (USA) Corp,oration request of September 29, 1997, to extend response date to NRC staff comments on site reclamation plan for the White Mesa uranium mill (Source Material License No. SUA-1358; Docket No. 40-8681)

By letter dated August 19, 1997, the NRC staff provided acceptance review comments to International Uranium (USA) Corporation (IUSA) on its reclamation plan for the~ ... te Mesa uranium mill, located near Blanding, Utah, which IUSA submitted to NRC by letter dated February 28, 1997. The staff requested that IUSA provide additional information to address its comments within 60 days from the date of the staff's letter.

By letter dated September 29, 1997, IUSA provided a status update on its progress in addressing the staff's comments and further requested that IUSA be granted an additional 60 days to prepare thorough responses. This would allow IUSA to submit its responses by December 19, 1997, rather than by October 19, 1997, as originally requested by the staff.

In this telephone conversation, I told Ms. Rehmann that the staff had reviewed IUSA's request and found it acceptable. I also indicated that, in lieu of a written response to IUSA's September 29, 1997, letter, a record of this conversation would be placed in the NRC docket file for the White Mesa mill site. Ms. Rehmann said that this was acceptable.
