SUBJECT:
GENERIC LETTER 88-05: BORIC ACID CORROSION OF CARBON STEEL REACTOR B0UNDARY COMPONENTS - SEABROOK, UNIT 1
~
On January 25, 1990, a letter with the subject " Review of 60-day Response to Generic Letter 88-20 Individual Plant Examinations (IPD) (TAC No. 68959)" was '
issued to you.
The January 25, 1990 letter was titled with the incorrect subject.
Therefore, this letter is being issued to correct the error; however, q
the contents of the January 25, 1990 letter remain unchanged and is repeated
~
here for your information.
1 On March 17, 1988, the NRC staff issued Generic Letter 88-05, " Boric Acid Corrosion of Carbon Steel Reactor Boundary Components in PWR Plants"..In l
this' letter we requested that you provide assurances that a program has been L
implenented at your plant that addresses the corrosive effects of reactor coolant system leakage at less than technical specification limits.
The generic l-
-letter identified four considerations which your program should include, i
In a letter _ dated May 27, 1988, you responded to Generic Letter 8f,-05, describing your commitment to a boric acid leakage monitoring and ]reventive program at your plant. We find that you have provided assurance t1at-a program is in i
place dealing with boric acid leakage that pctentially could affect the integrity
- of the reactor coolant pressure boundary. This fulfills your requirement in responding to Generic Letter 88-05.
As discussed in Generic Letter 88-05, you'should raintain, in auditable form, L
