Narrative

P.eport for LEP. 50-321/1980-128 On December 30, 1980, while at 637 !!.le and performing High Drywell Pressure Functional Test per NNP-1-3002 and Tech Spec 3.1-1 b and c, one of the dry-well high pressure relays, IC71-K48, did not function properly.

Prior to these failures, this was a non-repetitive event.

Safe plant operation was not affected nor was there any effect on the public health and safety due to this event.

The first event was caused by broken insulation on the relay, preventing the relay contacts from de-energizing.

It was repaired and functionally tested with satisfactory results. The second failure was due to coil failure. The relay was replaced and returned to service.

These relays are generic to Unit I and Unit II and investigations revealed no inherent repetitive failures.
