SUBJECT:

UCS PETITION I understand that a staff paper describing the application of NUREG-0588 (Interim Staff Position on Environmental Qualification of Safety-Related Electrical Equipment) will be up shortly.

Since the NUREG deals with how the 1971 and 1974 IEEE 323 standards will be implemented with regard to certain plants, I would suggest holding off on the decision until we've seen the staff paper.

If you agree, the staff should be so informed.

Attached is a copy of NUREG-0588 which I requested from tP staff yesterday and promised to distribute.
