Narrative

Report for LER 50-321/1980-092 On 7-31-80, the cooling water to the LPCI inverter room cooler was i s o l a t. e d resulting in a high ambient temperature in the inverter room.

The "B"

LPCI inverLer R44-S003 tripped due to this high tempercture causing "B"

loop of RlIR to become inop since this inverter supplies power to the LPCI injection valve E11-F015B and the RilR pump

' minimum flow bypass valve Ell-F007B.

The LPCI inverters for both Units 1

and 2 are located in the same room;

however, the cooling water was restored to the inverter room cooler before any of the other inverters were affected by the high temperature in the inverter room.

This is a

recurring prob 1cm with the same event occurring on 7-11-80, and reported by.RO

  1. 80-82.

Inverter room chillers are presently being installed and are expected to be operational by 12-1-80.

The unit is now in full compliance with the requirements, and no further r e p o r t i~ug is required.
