JAMES A. FITZPATRICK NUCLEAR POWER PLANT DOCKET NO. 50-333 ATTACHMENT TO LER 80-021/03L-0 Page 1 of 1 During normal shutdown operations instrumentation and Control Technicians noted that a' signal cable connector center pin was damaged on a connector associated with Intermediate Range Monitor (IRM) Channel "B".

Since IRM Channel "H" was inoperable due to an earlier failure and repair of.the connector

- center pin would make IRM "B" Inoperable Reactor Protection System (RPS) Channel "B" was tripped as required by Technical Specifications Table 3.1-1 prior to the start of work. Therefore the event did not represent a significant hazard to

~

the public health and safety.

The connector pin damage occurred as a result of normal wear and tear since the connector of concern :Is disconnected and reconnected as part of routine instrument calibration.

Following: repair of the connector by resoldering the center pin, the instrument was verified operable by completion of Operations Surveillance Test F-ST-SM titled "lRM Inoperative Functional Test and IRM High Flux Functional Instrument Check" and restored to service approximately two (2) hours later.

Since the failure was due to normal wear and tear, no additional corrective action to prevent recurrence is requi red.
