l. LER NUMBER: LER/R0 80-22/03L
11. LICENSEE NAME: Commonwealth Edison Company Quad-Cities Nuclear Power Station 111. FACILITY NAME: Unit One IV. DOCKET NUMBER: 050-254 V. EVENT DESCRIPTION:

On September 3, 1980, at 2 p.m., Refueling Outage Test QlS 27-l, HPCI Turbine Area High Temperature Switch Calibration was performed. Temperature Switch TS 1-2371A was found to trip above 2120F. Technical Specification 3.2.1.

specifies the trip point to be less than 2000F. This Instrument had drif ted 30F over the Technical Sr-ilfication limit on the previous test on August 13, 1979, and had been reau;usted successfully.

VI. PROBABLE CONSEQUENCES OF THE OCCURRENCE:

The 16 HPCI turbine area high temperature switches are arranged in groups of four switches per monitoring channel connected in a one-out-of-two-twice logic. Therefore, the other switches would have initiated isolation at or below 2000F as designed.

Vll. CAUSE:

The cause of this occurrence was instrument setpoint drif t of temperature switch TS 1-2371A. The switch is manufactured by United Electric Controls Company, Model F7-88.

Vill, CORRECTIVE ACTION:

The switch was replaced with a new one by the instrument Maintenance Department and tested satisfactorily in accordance with QlS 27-1 on September 5, 1980.
