Gentlemen:

j

This acknowledges receipt of your letter dated May 19, 1978 in response

to our letter of April 25, 1978.

In our letter we requested identifica-

tion of corrective action to preclude recurrence of an item of noncom-

pliance identified during Inspection 50-313/78-03. We also indicated

that this item was still considered to be an item of noncompliance.

Your reply indicates that you do not consider the pitting observed in

the pipi.ng to meet the specified criteria for disposition in accordance

with your Quality Assurance Program; therefore, you have not indicated

specific appropriate corrective action to preclude recurrence of the

'

cited item of noncompliance.

You do, however, commit to following your

_ Quality Asurance Program for items identified in the future which are

-l

considered as deviations, deficiencies, etc.

'

Since the determination ' relative to the lack of documentation of the

identified pitting is technically subjective based on our assessment of

the s.ignificance of the pitting, we plan no further action relative to

tnis' item of noncompliance.

On this basis we consider this item closed.

However, since we continue to disagree relative to the significance of

the indicated pitting, we have transmitted our concerns relative to the

affected piping to our Headquarters for their technical evaluation.

!

.l

Sincerely,

-
