EVENT DESCRIPTION

On April 15, 1980, while performing the High Drywell Pressure Calibration and Functional Test, procedure QlS-6, pressure swi tch PS-1-1001-88A was found to trip at 2.05 psig. This was higher than the 2.0 psig.

limiting condition for operation setpoint defined in Technical Speci fication Table 3 1-1.

Unit One was in the RUN mode at 768 MWe and 2328 MWt.

VI.

PROBABLE CONSEQUENCES OF THE OCCURRENCE:

The failure of this pressure switch did not effect plant safety.

Instrument PS-1-1001-88A is an A channel sensor in conjunction with PS-1-1001-88C in a one-out-of-two-twice logic scheme. The setpoint of pressure switch PS-1-1001-88C and both B channel pressure switches (PS-1-1001-88B and PS-1-1001-880) were found to be within their requi red setpoints. The 88C pressure swi tch in combination wi th either one of B channel pressure switches would have provided a reactor scram if high drywell pressure had occurred.

Vll.

CAUSE

The cause of this occurrence was instrument setpoint drif t.

Vill.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

The immediate corrective action was to calibrate the pressure switch to 1 95 psig. at which time the switch was functionally tested sa t i s factori ly.
