5. Identification of Occurrence:

Enviroismental samples were not analyzed using procedures which provided LLD's equal to or less than those required by the Environmental Technical Specif1-cations.

7. Description of Occurrence

The following samples had LLD's greater than those required by ETS for the below indicated periods. .

8. Designation of Apparent Cause:

Sample size and count times of the samples may not have been sufficient to obtain LLD's within the ETS requirements. Natural radiation background may also have caused activity in the samples which can result in higher LLD's.

9. Analysis of Occurrence:

Of the 51 sample nuclides that had greater than allowed LLD's, 33 nuclides had no detectable activities and another 6 nuclides had activities less than the preoperational 95 percentile value.

The 12 remaining nuclides had activities that were greater than the preopera-tional 95 percentile value but less than 10 times that valtre. These 12 nuclides were mainly k-40 and naturally occurring Th-232.

10. Corrective Action:

Sample sizes and count times are being increased and a Technical Specification Change Request is being initiated to increase the LLD for k-40.
