Beaver Valley Power Statiotr, Unit-Nor 1 Docket No. 50-334 Status of Piping Reanalysis Program Gentlemen:
The purpose of this letter is to provide the present status of the reanalysis of the piping systems described in our April 2,1979 reply to the Nuclear Regulatory Commissions' March 13, 1979, " Order to Show Cause".
The pipe stress reanalysis has been completed and, with the installation of two hydraulic snubbers, no pipe is overstressed in the event of the occurrence of the safe shutdcwn earthquake. The reanalysis of the piping supports will be completed by the first week of July to the extent that we believe that no additional overstressed supports will be identified on the small nurber of piping systems for which the support rhanalysis will remain to be completed. This belief is based upon the experience gained in the reanalysis of the large nu=ber of supports that have been reanalyzed to date.
We have initiated the engineering and installation activities necessary to install two (2) additional hydraulic snubbers and to modify approximately fif teen (15) existing supports.
We intend to submit a report during the week of June 18, 1979 to support a request for station start up on approximately July 6,1979.
At that time, all modifications that we consider necessary to assure the functional capability of the emergency core cooling, engineered safety features, and safe shutdown systems subsequent to the occurrence of the safe shutdown earthqude will be completed. Therefore, we will request the portion of the March 13,1979, " Order to Show Cause" which requires the station to remain shutdown to be rescinded, and that a return to operation be permitted upon the completion of the identified modificaticos.

Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit No. 1 Docket No. 50-334 Status of Piping Reanalysis Program Page During the approximately six to seven weeks of operation that are required to expend the remaining fuel in the first cycle of the nuclear core the remainder of the reanalysis of the piping supports on the systems described in our letter of April 2, 1979 will be completed. All modifications of the pipe supports required to assure that stresses are within code allowable values for the operational basis earthquake, as well as the safe shutdown earthquake will be completed during the first refueling outage that will commence as soon as the remaining six to seven full power weeks of nuclear fuel in the first cycle is expended.
Very truly yours, E.
