Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit No. 1 Docket No. 50-334 Response to January 9, 1979 Request For Additional Information Gentlemen:

As a result of a meeting held at the Beaver Valley site on January 25 and 26, 1979 between members of your s taff and representatives of the Duquesne Light Company, the Duquesne Light Company is undertaking the following actions.

A core boring program is presently underway to obtain additional samples of the soils in the area of the station Turbine Building. Based upon the analysis of these core borings, a liquifaction analysis shall be performed. A stability analysis shall be performed should the results of the liquifaction analysis indicate that a potential for liquifactior.

If indicated, a. program to improve the stability of the soil in the area of the Turbine Building and a schedule for its implementation shall be prepared.

These activities should be completed by April 30, 1979.

We have instituted an administrative control that requires station management to notify the Division of Operating Reactors and the Office of Inspection and Enforcement when the river elevation reaches 674 feet above MSL. The action statement of Appendix A, Technical Specification 3.7.6.la will be implemented at river elevation 680 feet above Mean Sea Level.
