20555 NRC DOCKET 50-321 OPERATING LICENSE DPR-57 EDWIN 1. HATCH NUCLEAR PLANT UNIT 1 ALTER'! ATE PO'JER SUPPLY TO RPS Centlemen:

At the June 13, 1979, meeting between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Georgia Power Company representatives, several qucstions were raised with regard to the modification of the reactor protection system (RPS) power supply. The following items will address two of those concerns:

(1) Georgia Power Ccapany will modify its design to include pro-tective breakers on the alternate supply.

(2) The time delay will be set to ::ero pending documentation f rom equipment suppliers that the time delay will not introduce conditions which could damage equipment on the RPS buses.

At this time Georgia Power Company cannot commit to having the protective breakers installed on the alternate pcwer supply by the end of the present refueling outage because not all parts required are available on site.

We are attempting to procure the necessary parts,

hcwever, and if they become available before the end of the outage, we will proceed with installation.

Ucwever, if the necessary parts are not available in the necessary time frame, Georgia Pcwer Ccmpany will propose a change to the Technical Specificatiens calling for increased surveillance of voltage and f requency whenever the alternate power supply is in use.
