SUBJECT:
EFFORTS PERFORMED RELATED TO TMI-2 ACCIDENT Following the accident at Three Mile Island, Unit 2, I have been involved in the following efforts:
- Meltdown Analysis - BCL Calculation of timing, releases, etc. associated with 5
postulated meltdown accidents occurring at various times 3
into the TMI-2 accident.
(worked in conjunction with J. Murphy)
- Natural Circulation / Debris Bed Cooling Analysis - BCL/PNL/0RNL/TEC 3
Assessment of core damage using T/C maps; assessment of 2
potential for localized dry-out and fuel heatup after RCP trip and depressurization.
}
(worked in conjunction with A. Buhl) i Containment Vent-Filtering - BCL/SLA
-5 Fast-turnaround assessment at BCL. Worked with M. Taylor 4
in lead to assess capabilities of existing plant features for use as vent-filter system (e.g., SFSP, H2 purge system) in event core melt occurred early in accident (i.e., first fewdays). Developed relative merit of various alternative pcths.
Design conceptualization for vent-filter system.
Developed J
inore detailed vent-filter design concepts for later times after accident, when time would have been available for some equipment modification / installation. Based on fast-turnaround BCL results and additional BCL/SLA work, developed conceptual vent-filter design--discussed with NRC staff at TMI site.

2-Contingency Plan Development for Comission On night of 3/31 -4/1/79, used BCL meltdown accident results calculated at BCL to aid in developing evacuation contingency plans if accident progression resulted in fuel meltdown.
(worked in conjunction with J. Murphy)
H2 Detonation Analysis - SLA Acted as backup to Joe Murphy in providing information to SLA and receiving and discussing results.
