APPLICATION FOR RENEWAL OF THE HUMBOLDT BAY INDEPENDENT SPENT FUEL STORAGE INSTALLATION LICENSE NO. SNM-2514 - ACCEPTED FOR REVIEW (EPID NO. L-2018-RNW-0016)
Dear Mr. Welsch:
By letter dated July 10, 2018, and supplemented October 22, 2018, Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) submitted an application for renewal of License No. SNM-2514 for the Humboldt Bay Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation. The current license expires on November 17, 2025. The submittal of the renewal application was timely per the requirements of 10 CFR 72.42(b). In the application, PG&E requested to renew the license for an additional 40 years. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff performed an acceptance review of your application to determine if the application contains sufficient technical information in scope and depth to allow the staff to conduct the detailed technical review.
This letter acknowledges acceptance of your application. The application appears to contain the information needed for the NRC staff to conduct a detailed technical review. We have established a schedule for the review. The schedule allows for the staff to complete its technical review and issue a request for additional information (RAI) in February 2019 and the license renewal in July 2019, based on you responding to the RAI in April 2019. If no RAI is needed, and based on the staffs evaluation, the approval may be issued at an earlier time. If an additional RAI is needed, the staff will keep you informed of any schedule changes. In general, no additional changes to the application should be submitted except for changes resulting from your response to an RAI.
