Dear Mr. Stello:

Re: St. Lucie Unit 1 Docket No. 50-335 CEA Guide Tube Wear Your letter of January 18, 1978 requested justification that excessive guide tube wear does not exist at St. Lucie Unit 1 or information justifying'ontinued operation oi St. Lucie Unit 1 considering the potential for guide tube wear.

St. Lucie Unit 1 is presently scheduled to be shutdown for refueling about April 1, 1978, and we will be unable to determine the amount of guide tube wear for the unit until that time. Our NSSS Vendor has prepared a report which is responsive to your request for justification of continued operation. .The report specifically addresses reactor operation with guide tube wear and supports continued operation of St. Lucie Unit 1. This report (CEN- -P) discusses inspection results from other facilities and eva uates the impact of guide tube wear on SAR analyses. The report concludes that reactor operation with worn guide tubes does ndt create undue risk to the health and safety of the public.
