This refers to your letter dated January 16, 1979, in response to our
letter dated December 15, 1978~
Your letter states that strain gage measurements
11were not considered a
formal *part of the Structural Integrity Test

However, your commitments
in Amendent 38 of the Salem Generating Station FSAR (Question 5.20)
indicate that due to equipment layo~t it is not possible to run trans-
ducer wires at six points at each circumference for growth measurements
and,
11 numerous additional strain gages will be used on the liner plate
and rebar to supplement the measurements".
As noted in IE Inspection
Report No. 50-311/78-51, we observed that these strain gage commitments
were met during the test, and data/evaluations will b~ included in the
final test r~port. *
In a telephone conversation between Mr. R. Evans of your staff and Mr.
Toth of this office we were advised that a review of all Salem 2 struc-
tural specifications was completed on January 18, 1979 to identify any
process/test related requirements which may have been inadvertently
omitted from other procedures.
We understand that no such cases were
identified.
Should you have any questions or clarifications regarding the above
understandings, please contact this office.
Your corrective and pre-
ventive actions documented in your letter and described above will be
examined during a subsequent inspection of your licensed program .
