SUMMARY

OF JANUARY 31, 2018, TELEPHONE CONFERENCE TO DISCUSS REVISED DRAFT REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON INTEGRATED SAFETY ANALYSIS

SUMMARY

AND MANAGEMENT MEASURES FOR LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION, HONEYWELL METROPOLIS WORKS (COST ACTIVITY CODE 000224/04003392/L-2017-RNW-0002)

On January 31, 2018, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff and representatives of Honeywell International Inc. (Honeywell or the licensee), held a telephone conference to discuss the staff's draft request for additional information (D-RAI) in the areas of Integrated Safety Analysis (ISA) Summary and Management Measures, concerning Honeywell's license renewal application (LRA) submittal dated February 8, 2017 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System [ADAMS] Accession Number ML17048A263), as supplemented by letter dated September 20, 2017 (ADAMS Accession Number ML17291A652) for its Metropolis Works (MTW) facility.

The staff's D-RAI, in the areas of ISA Summary and Management Measures, was originally sent to Honeywell, via email, on October 24, 2017.

On December 11, 2017, the NRC staff held a conference call with Honeywell to initiate the first step in clarifying the intent of the staff's D-RAI questions in these review areas. Based on the December 11, 2017, conference call (ADAMS Accession Number ML17353A041), both parties agreed that the majority of the questions raised in the subject D-RAI would be further clarified during the upcoming site visit, scheduled for December 13th and 14th, 2017.

On December 13 and 14, 2017, the NRC staff made a site visit to Honeywell MTW, as part of the review effort associated with Honeywell's LRA, to provide clarifications of the staff's D-RAI in the areas of ISA Summary and Management Measures (ADAMS Accession Number ML18003A232, non-public). As a result of the D-RAI discussions held on site at Honeywell MTW, the NRC staff indicated that a number of D-RAI questions would be revised to include more specific details needed to support the staff's review. On January 24, 2018, the NRC staff provided the revised set of D-RAI to Honeywell by email.

The telephone conference was useful in further cl arifying the NRC staff's D-RAI in the areas of ISA Summary and Management Measures. Honeywell MTW representatives indicated that they understood the intent of the D-RAI questions. No decisions were made during the telephone conference, and Honeywell agreed that it would provide the information requested by the NRC staff. During the telephone conference, the staff informed Honeywell representatives that the D-RAI will be issued as a formal RAI via separate correspondence.

provides a list of those who participated in the telephone conference. Enclosure 2 contains the D-RAI questions on ISA Summary and Management Measures, as provided to Honeywell MTW by email on January 24, 2018, which were discussed during the telephone conference.

Honeywell MTW has had an opportunity to review and comment on this summary.
