Dear Mr. Van Brunt:

SUBJECT:

MONITORING OF ESSENTIAL SPRAY POND SYSTEM FOR PALO VERDE By letter dated January 30, 1986, you informed us that the periodic pressure monitoring of the spray ponds for Palo Verde would be revised from a weekly basis to a monthly basis.

You state that the reason for the change in frequency is that no detectable system pressure decrease has occurred over the period of several months when weekly monitoring was performed.

We have reviewed the information you have provided, including your commitment to restore weekly monitoring should the system pressure drop 'to the alert range (6.2 psig),

and find the revised monitoring frequency to be acceptable.

If you have any questions regarding this letter, please let m'e know.

Sincerely,

/6 E. A. Licitra, Project Manager PWR Directorate ¹7 Division of PWR Licensing-B cc:
