STN 50-528(License NO.NPF-34)/529/530 Essential Spray Pond Corrosion Files 85-056-026 Dear Mr. Knightons On March 1,
1985 a
leaking weld in an eight inch diameter stainless steel pipe inside the PVNGS Unit 2 essential spray pond was identified.
Subsequent investigation by ANPP determined other leaking welds which appeared as pin hole size perforations through the weld area.
As a
- result, ANPP began an evaluation to determine the cause and scope of the problem and its impact on operation of PVNGS.
At the beginning of our evaluation during the week of March 11, you requested our participation in a
telephone conference call to provide you and appropriate NRC staff participants current information regarding this concern.
During the conference call NRC requested a
prompt report on the subject evaluating the safety impact on PVNGS.
Enclosed per your request is a
copy of our report and evaluation of the spray pond weld corrosion concern.
