PURPOSE: Document the Screening Evaluation Work Sheets (SEWS) for the ECMU/EMER MAKEUP WATER TANK¹12, equipment number 60-09.

Note: ECMU/EMER MAKEUP WATER TANK¹11, equipment number 60-10 is similar to 60-09.

This SEWS has been prepared as part of the commitment to use the SQUG (GIP) methodology to document the seismic adequacy of SSEL components.

CONCLUSION: The GIP procedure for horizontal tanks, Attachment C, shows that the tanks 60-09 and 60-10 are outliers due to the Insufficient uplift capacity of the brace base and are considered outliers for this brace plate. The outlier analysis, Attachment D, concluded this brace plate is about 50% above design basis .

Therefore, the SQUG outlier for 60-09 and the similar tank 60-1 0 is resolved.

1. The buckling capacity of the shell of a large, flat-bottom, vertical tank is equal to or greater Yes than the demand.
2. The capacity of the anchor bolts and their embedments is equal to or greater than the Yes demand.
3. The capacity of connections between the anchor bolts and the tank shell is equal to or Yes greater than the demand.
4. Attached piping has adequate flexibilityto accommodate the motion of a large, flat-bottom, Yes vertical tank.

Agosta - Outlier Evaluation In Revision 0, these emergency condenser tanks were declared outliers because the baseplate capacity per the GIP allowables and procedure were exceeds.

External analysis 93C2771-C-007 evaluates the baseplate using yield line theory and develops a HCLPF PGA capacity equal to 0.19g.

Therefore, this equipment is found acceptable for A-46 design basis purposes and the outlier is resolved. The HCLPF remains at 0.19g PGA.

Background

Since the GIP rules have been revised from the initial walkdown evaluation and the MPR calculation does not cover all the requirements of the GIP, Rev.2 [2], Section 7, a new evaluation is performed in this calculation.

Conclusion This calculation shows that tanks 60-09 and 60-10 are outliers due to the insufficient uplift capacity of the brace base.

It shall be also noted that both 60-09 and 60-10 tanks do not exactly fit the analytical model presented in Ref.2. Since the tanks'eismic resistance in longitudinal direction is provided by additional bracing (not by the saddles as it is assumed in the GIP model) the GIP formulas in step 6 have been adjusted to exclude the effect of longitudinal seismic loads applied to the saddles. When these loads are excluded the transverse and vertical capacities substantially Increased. However the anchorage capacity of the longitudinal bracing (governed by the base plate capacity in bending) still does not meet the longitudinal seismic demand.

Thus the 60-09 and 60-10 tanks are outliers.
