SUMMARY

OF FEBRUARY 2, 2017, PUBLIC MEETING REGARDING LICENSE AMENDMENT REQUEST TO IMPLEMENT RISK-INFORMED TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION COMPLETION TIMES (CAC NOS. ME9555 AND ME9556)

On February 2, 2017, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a public teleconference 1 with staff from Southern Nuclear Operating Company, Inc. (SNC or the licensee). The purpose of the call was to discuss SNC's license amendment request to implement risk-informed Technical Specification Completion Times for the Vogtle Electric Generating Plant, Units 1 and 2. Specifically, the discussion was focused on draft request for additional information (RAI) question 10 that was provided to SNC on January 24, 2017. 2 The discussion of the RAI was a follow-on to a public meeting held on January 26, 2017, 3 where it was identified that additional interactions were needed to clarify the NRC staff's information need with respect to RAI 10. During the call, the NRC provided additional information about what information would be useful to the NRC staff in evaluating defense-in-depth for the identified TS actions. In response, SNC provided a discussion system configurations and how the plant would respond in various scenarios.

Although better understanding was reached, at the conclusion of the meeting, both parties agreed that additional interactions would be necessary. Another public interaction would be planned at a later date and noticed via the normal process.
