SUMMARY

OF JANUARY 26, 2017, PUBLIC MEETING REGARDING LICENSE AMENDMENT REQUEST TO IMPLEMENT RISK-INFORMED TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION COMPLETION TIMES On January 26, 2017, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a public meeting1 with staff from Southern Nuclear Company (SNC or the licensee). The purpose of the meeting was to discuss SNC's license amendment request to implement risk-informed Technical Specification Completion Times for the Vogtle Electric Generating Plant. Specifically, the discussion was focused on a draft request for additional information (RAI) that was provided to SNC on January 24, 2017. 2 The discussion of the RAls was to ensure that the questions clearly conveyed the NRC staff information needs and that the regulatory basis was clear. With the following exceptions, alignment was reached on what information the NRC staff needed:

RAI 3, SNC acknowledged the basis for the NRC staff's question, but indicated that alternate wording for the condition from what was proposed in the question may be more appropriate. SNC indicated that they would review the wording of the condition and proposed a modification to address the NRC staff question.

RAI 6, Both parties agreed that additional discussion in a later meeting was necessary to determine how to model common cause failure for emergent equipment failure.

RAI 10, Both parties agreed that additional discussion in a later meeting was necessary to determine an appropriate response the NRC staff's informational needs.

To resolve the remaining questions, it was agreed that another public interaction would be needed. February 7, 2017, was tentatively picked as the next date pending verification of participants schedules.

No regulatory decisions were made at the meeting. Following the discussion, an opportunity was afforded to any other participants who wished to ask questions or make comments. No questions or comments were received.
