UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 August 26, 2016 Mr. Michael P. Gallagher Vice President, License Renewal Projects LaSalle County Station, Units 1 and 2 Exelon Generation Co., LLC 200 Exelon Way Kennett Square, PA 19348

SUBJECT:

NOTICE OF AVAILABILITY OF THE FINAL PLANT-SPECIFIC SUPPLEMENT 57 TO THE GENERIC ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT FOR LICENSE RENEWAL OF NUCLEAR PLANTS REGARDING LASALLE COUNTY STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 (TAC NO. MF5567 & MF5568)

Dear Mr. Gallagher:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has completed the final plant-specific Supplement 57 to NUREG-1437, Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants (GEIS), regarding the renewal of operating license NPF-11 and NPF-18 for an additional 20 years of operation for the LaSalle County Station, Units 1 and 2.

Enclosed is a copy of the final supplement, which is also publicly available at the NRC Public Document Room or from the NRCs Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS). ADAMS is accessible from the NRC website at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html. The ADAMS accession number for the final supplement is ML16238A029. In addition, a printed copy has been sent to the Seneca Public Library in Seneca, Illinois. The NRC staff will be issuing Notice of Availability in the Federal Register advising the public of the availability of the final supplement.

As discussed in Chapter 5 of the final supplement, the staff determined that the adverse environmental impacts of license renewal for LaSalle County Station, Units 1 and 2 are not so great that preserving the option of license renewal for energy-planning decision makers would be unreasonable. This recommendation is based on: (1) the analysis and findings in the GEIS; (2) information provided in the environmental report and other documents submitted by Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc.; (3) consultation with Federal, State, local, and Tribal agencies; (4) the staffs own independent review; and (5) consideration of public comments received during the scoping process and on the draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement.

M. Gallagher A separate Notice of Availability of the final supplemental environmental impact statement will be placed in the Federal Register through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact the NRC License Renewal Project Manager, Mr. William Ford at 301-415-1263 or by e-mail at William.Ford@nrc.gov.

Sincerely,

/RA/
