SUMMARY
OF DAM SAFETY INSPECTION FOR THE SERVICE WATER RESERVOIR DAM (TAC NO. MD8547)
Dear Mr. Heacock:
On March 27, 2014, a routine safety inspection was conducted at Virginia Electric and Power Company (VEPCO) North Anna Power Station, Unit Nos. 1 and 2, Service Water Reservoir (SWR) facilities that provide the cooling* water for unit shutdown during emergency conditions.
The staff of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has received and evaluated the final report from its technical assistance contractor, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), related to this inspection. The inspection did not identify any conditions that represent a threat to the safety or the operation of the Service Water Reservoir.
The NRC staff concurs with the conclusions stated in the FERC report (Enclosure). The inspection included the earth embankments, the pump house, \\alve house, diversion dike and adjoining areas. Based on visual inspection, discussions with licensee representatives and data submitted by VEPCO, the SWR embankment and appurtenances are well maintained and in satisfactory condition for service, stability and longevity. No conditions threatening dam safety were found.
I The information in the report is considered critical energy infrastructure information. Thus, the enclosure is considered sensitive security-related information, official use only, and is marked accordingly.
The enclosure transmitted herewith contains security-related information.
When separated from the enclosure, this document is decontrolled.
