We committed in reference 1 to submit the results of the SONGS 1 Individual Plant Examination (IPE) to the NRC by January 2, 1992, approximately eight months earlier than our original schedule. This schedule improvement was made in response to an NRC request in reference 2 for assistance in avoiding potential delays in the NRC review process.
However, based on the work completed to date, the SONGS 1 IPE will require more effort to complete than we anticipated. This additional effort, in conjunction with the limited technical resources of our IPE contractor, requires that we reschedule the submittal date for the SONGS 1 IPE to April 1, 1992. This three month extension will allow us to complete the SONGS 1 IPE without affecting the performance of the SONGS 2/3 IPE.
Our revised IPE completion date of April 1, 1992, continues to represent a five month improvement over the schedule requirements of Generic Letter 88-20.
We hope this revised submittal schedule assists the NRC in its review of the backlog of IPEs expected in late 1992.
